Our Flores Island Discovery Tour provides the most inclusive tour of Flores Island. This 7-day, 6-night excursion begins in the eastern part of Flores in Maumere and ends in Labuan Bajo, the western part of Flores. The tour can be combined with a Komodo dragon tour at the end because of the proximity of Labuan Bajo to Komodo National Park.

Flores Island Discovery Tour

Day 1: Maumere to Moni Today’s full day excursion begins in Maumere and ends in Moni. First, in Maumere you will visit Wuring fishing village and Ledalero Museum. Then you will leave Maumere and go to Paga Beach to relax, and swim if you like. Next is a visit to Jopu Traditional Village. Lastly, you will arrive in Moni, located at the foot of the volcanic Mount Kelimutu. Nestling among lush rice paddies, the picturesque village of Moni exudes a lazy charm and has a variety of accommodations for your overnight stay. Enjoy taking a walk through the village. The local people are friendly.

Day 2: Moni to Ende In the early morning you will be taken up to Mount Kelimutu by car. A short walk (30 minutes) will take you to the lookout point to wait for the sunrise. This is also the best time to see the striking Kelimutu Crater Lakes of varying colors. Afterwards, you return to Moni for breakfast before travelling to Ende. Moni to Ende is an absolutely spectacular drive with two stops along the way at Saga Traditional Village and Wolotopo Traditional Village. While in the spectacular setting of Ende visit the Bung Karno Museum, take a stroll through the markets near the waterfront, or just enjoy the beautiful scenery and friendly folk. Stay overnight in one of several hotels in Ende.

Day 3: Ende to Riung Today’s excursion takes you from Ende to the fishing town of Riung – about a 4-hour drive. First you will visit Penggajawa Beach; the only place in Indonesia where you can find 6 km (3 mi) long of green and blue stones. Afterward, you will continue on to Riung along narrow, winding roads, an adventure in itself. In one section of the journey to Riung, around the town of Bajawa, you will see a large expanse of green, tundra-covered hills, where are scattered single palm trees appearing like candles on a birthday cake. At the end of the journey is a beauty that will amaze anyone, and makes the trip well worth the challenging ride to get there. There are a small number of accommodation options ranging from simple guesthouses to nice, mid-range cottages for your overnight stay.

Day 4: 17 Islands Ruing Marine Park Discovery Riung is the gateway to the 17 Islands Ruing Marine Park. You will have a full-day excursion of discovering the many different islets. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling to explore the underwater marine life, and relaxing on white sand beaches. Have a barbecue lunch on the island. At dusk experience the magnificent spectacle of the flight of thousands of flying foxes on Ontoloe Island. Dinner and overnight stay in Riung.

Day 5: Riung to Bajawa Today’s excursion takes you from Riung to Bajawa – about a 3-hour drive. About 23 km (14 mi) north of Bajawa is Mengeruda Hot Springs of Soa, where you can enjoy soaking in the pool and waterfall. Afterwards have lunch, then visit Bena and Luba Traditional Villages. In the evening watch the sunset from nearby Wolo Bobo Mountain and stay overnight in Bajawa.

Day 6: Bajawa to Ruteng Today’s excursion takes you from Bajawa to Ruteng – about a 5-hour drive with a spectacular landscape view. On the way stop for a short break at Aimere Village to see the traditional way of burning Sopi, a hard liqueur made of palm tree fruits. If you do not stay at Mbolata Beach Resort, in Mbolata you can stop for a drink. If you like, there will be enough time to take a bath in the warm water of the Sawu Sea, sunbathe, or take a stroll on the sandy beach. Before reaching Ruteng, stop to view the beautiful Rana Mese Lake. Stay overnight in a hotel in Ruteng.

Day 7: Ruteng Discovery Today’s excursion takes you exploring in the Ruteng area before the drive to Labuan Bajo, your final destination. In the early morning you will go up to Golo Curu where you have incredible views of Ruteng, the mountain range, and terraced rice fields.
